Elizabeth Lawrence : Behind the Design Having dedicated seven years to developing upholstery and design skills, Elizabeth has used her background to concentrate on quality children's furniture design. “Parents spend a lot of time and money on their homes. Why should children's furniture undo all that hard work! I try to make things that are not only fun for kids but also considerate of the parents need for quality and function. Children's furniture design is unique in this way, as it requires an understanding of two different sets of expectations.” Elizabeth has harbored an interest in furniture design for years and has been a regular contributor to Melbourne's Fringe furniture exhibition taking out major awards on two separate occasions. In 2005 Elizabeth was also short listed for the best new prototype by a professional designer at the 2005 Furnitex Furniture Fair. “It's really important to be involved in fairs and exhibitions. Not only is it a great platform to test out new products and check out new technologies but you also get to meet other designers. Working solo can be an insular existence. It's good to know there are other design crazies out there enjoying the same angst!” |
